Stockton, Norton and Billingham kin Family carers (SNBKC) is a community group based in Stockton on Tees which provides friendship and support to grandparents who are becoming kin carers or raising their grandchildren as a result of family breakdown.
Kin Carers are by default, older grandparents, many with health issues of their own and they often struggle with the stress of also raising grandchildren who often have complex needs due to abuse and neglect, including pre-natal drug and alcohol abuse by the mother.
Participation in planned activities can often help reduce the challenging behaviour of the children and although the group engage in days out to local amenities with zero or little cost, the group is reliant on funding to enable them to participate in paid activities with their kin children.
Stockton, Norton & Billingham Kin Family Carers wanted to do something extra special for their 40 strong group during the summer months and in a bid to help them to achieve this, the group submitted a funding application to Esh Group.
As a result of the £1.5 million-pound facilities framework which sees reactive repairs and associated works delivered on properties throughout the North East, in collaboration with our client, North Star Housing, Stockton, Norton & Billingham Kin Family Carers were awarded funding of £600. The funding will enable the group to organise a much-needed day out for the carers and their children allowing for a safe, fun and supportive time to be had for all.
