OUR INDUSTRY CHALLENGE

35%

Of the UK’s annual energy is used by our domestic housing stock.

23%

Of the UK’s carbon emissions are produced by our domestic housing stock.

78%

Reduction in these figures is required if the UK is to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

26m

Homes need to be retrofitted by 2050 to meet the UK Government’s Net Zero target.

3.4m

Homes across the North East & Yorkshire require domestic retrofit works.

1/3rd

Of the UK’s social housing stock must be improved to reach EPC Level C.

10x

The retrofit industry will need to grow by a factor of 10 to achieve the UK's retrofit targets.

18.4%

Social housing residents living in fuel poverty.

22%

Of home energy reduction is predicted to come through changing resident's behavior.

The Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) was announced by the Government in 2019 in a bid to improve the energy performance of social rented homes and support the UK’s target to reach net zero by 2050. A further £800 million was earmarked for the SHDF ‘Wave 2’ fund within the 2021 spending review with successful applicants announced early in 2023.

The Government has outlined several key drivers behind improving the energy performance of social rented homes – arguably the most pressing issue tenants face right now is the rising cost of energy bills. Combating the number of households in fuel poverty in the long term can only happen if their homes become more energy efficient.
