Newcastle Great Park Spine Road

A 2.2km spine road, including the creation of Junctions 4-7, was constructed at Newcastle Great Park. Delivered on behalf of the Newcastle Great Park Consortium, the scheme comprised three new roundabouts, one signalised junction and a 21m span bridge over the Ouseburn. Substantial drainage works were required throughout, including the re-routing of an unnamed water course and the installation of a new attenuation system. Two swales approximately 300m long were constructed, as well as a balancing pond and culverts.

Wharton Park

Wharton Park underwent significant improvement works which included the construction of a new heritage centre and café, new play and fitness areas and restoration of the Amphitheatre, battlements, Albert the Good statue, Way Sculpture and miniature car track. Structural stabilisation, rebuilding and re-pointing works were completed to the Grade II listed battery, battlement walls, turret and site wide retaining walls. The access route into the park was widened and footpaths improved throughout.

Scarborough Indoor Market

The 1830’s Grade II listed market hall underwent full refurbishment to encourage new businesses and visitors into the market. A mezzanine level was installed, and the ground floor re-modelled to create additional trading spaces. Externally, the building was repaired and a new access ramp installed to improve accessibility. The design reflects the thirties and retains as many of the original features as possible such as the balustrade, flooring and large arched windows. The market hall remained fully operational throughout.

International Advanced Manufacturing Park (IAMP) Phase 1

Working on behalf of developer HBD, a 1,500-metre highway with two access points was constructed, forming the infrastructure for Phase 1 of the IAMP development. Bulk earthworks, drainage and landscaping works were undertaken, which included environmental mitigation works, as well as the creation of four attenuation ponds and a new substation engineered platform. An investment by South Tyneside Council and Sunderland City Council, IAMP is a nationally significant manufacturing scheme spanning 370 acres adjacent to the A19.
