A sneak peek at this year's Quayside Seaside

Check out this year's bigger and better Quayside Seaside

Work has begun on Newcastle’s river bank as the popular Quayside Seaside attraction returns for the seventh year running.

The later date for this year comes as a result of the Heineken Champions Cup Final fan-zone that occupied the area on the weekend of May 10 & 11.

Esh Civils, the civil engineering division of Esh Construction has been tasked with installing a host of summery commodities, including 216 cubic metres of sand, five candy-striped beach huts, 50 deck chairs, a climbing wall, and palm trees that will run alongside the River Tyne.

New additions this year include a brand-new astro-turf area with additional seating, giant outdoor games, a children’s playground equipped with a slide and fireman’s pole and a roster of street food vendors.

The architecture of the Quayside Seaside was designed by Colour Urban Design Ltd who have also been the team behind the Grey Street Gathering feature that opened in April, delivered also by Esh Civils.

Colour UDL’s Senior Landscape Architect and lead designer on the project, Carwyn Thomas, said: “It blends both man-made and nature together for locals to enjoy, where visitors can experience the feel of natural surroundings in the comfort of their own city, complementing the river.”

The Quayside Seaside has been commissioned by NE1 and is due to open on May 24 and run until October.

This project brings great value to the area. It’s a consistent job that we have performed since 2013 and end users fully embrace the feature to make it such a popular Newcastle attraction.”
