Two projects which will deliver important bridge maintenance works on key road networks in Sunderland have been awarded to Esh Construction.
In a contract worth just over £1 million, structural maintenance works will be delivered on two bridges which span the A1231 Sunderland Highway. Located in Washington, the Nissan Way Interchange east bridge and west bridge will undergo extensive maintenance works, including bridge beam re-painting, and concrete repairs to the abutments and piers which will be temporarily propped during the work.
The second development will see Chartershaugh Bridge, which carries the A182 across the River Wear at Fatfield, repaired in a £522,000 contract. Esh will work alongside Environment Agency and the Port of Sunderland to ensure the watercourse is protected throughout the works on the 46-year-old structure.
Procured via North East Procurement Organisation (NEPO), the schemes will be delivered by Esh’s civil engineering division on behalf of Sunderland City Council. The council’s Bridges Team will supervise the works on site.
