Esh Construction to build new homes on site of former iconic nightclub in Yarm

Work is underway to deliver 114 new homes in Yarm.

Esh Construction has commenced work on a £13.2 million development which will transform the site of a well-known former hotel and nightclub complex into new homes.

In partnership with Broadacres Housing Association, Esh will deliver 79 homes for affordable rent and shared ownership on the footprint of the Tall Trees Hotel in Yarm. A further 35 properties will be offered for outright sale by the Association’s private sale arm, Mulberry Homes Yorkshire.

The two, three, and four-bedroom homes will be built in phases over the next few years.

Tall Trees was one of the landmark venues of the 1980s and 1990. Many of the world’s best DJ’s performed in its adjoining nightclub, known as Macmillans.

Now the site is being transformed into a mixed tenure development, with many of the homes being affordable, either via affordable rent or shared ownership, which gives people a chance to get their first foot on the property ladder.

Joy Whinnerah, Broadacres Development and Investment Director, said: “We are delighted to be pressing ahead with this exciting new development in such an iconic location as Tall Trees.

“It will provide a range of high-quality homes meeting the needs of a wide cross section of the local community, from people in need of affordable rented homes, through to those seeking low-cost home ownership options.

“Broadacres is committed to providing great homes, great places and great customer experiences, and building developments in high demand areas such as Yarm is an excellent example of this.

“It also makes a significant contribution to the 1,250 new homes we are in the process of delivering as part of our corporate strategy.”

Gary Dobson, Divisional Director at Esh Construction, said: “As a local contractor, we’re pleased to be working in partnership with Broadacres once again to deliver high quality new homes for the local community. Esh has a full portfolio affordable housing schemes live or due to commence and this scheme is another fantastic addition to our workstream.”
