£800k refurbishment of Stockton housing scheme takes shape

24 flats and an onsite community centre will receive a makeover on behalf of Thirteen Group.

An £800,000 project which will see the transformation of a sheltered housing scheme in Stockton is underway.

The development is being delivered by Esh’s affordable housing division in partnership with Thirteen Group. Residents living in 24 flats at Laburnum and Magnolia Court will receive new kitchens, bathrooms with level access showers, doors, new heating systems, a full electrical upgrade and decoration throughout.

Ewbank Gardens, the onsite community centre, has already received a full makeover as part of the project, including roof improvements, a new kitchen, bathroom suites, doors, a full heating upgrade and modern décor.

The project, which is due to be completed later this summer, will also see the gardens landscaped, creating a welcoming and relaxing environment for residents to enjoy together.

Thirteen’s project manager Rubie Lee said: “This is a very exciting project which will modernise these homes and the shared communal areas within the scheme to make an incredible difference to our customers.

“The scale of the project has been complex during lockdown, but the safety of our customers continues to be our priority. We’ve worked closely with our customers throughout the project and we invite them along to weekly coffee mornings so they can ask us any questions they might have.

“Not only will our customers see a visible difference to their homes, but this work brings many benefits, making them feel much warmer and energy efficient. Schemes like this are so important so that people can live as independently as possible, that’s why we continue to invest in facilities like this, ensuring they are modern and comfortable so that every person has a home that meets their needs.”

Colin Ford, Construction Director at Esh Construction, said: “The pandemic has emphasised the importance of having a safe and comfortable place to call home, making refurbishment schemes like these even more essential. We are pleased to be working alongside Thirteen to deliver these much-needed home improvements and upgrades to communal spaces.”
