Gentoo appoints Esh Construction to deliver £12m modernisation works

The contract will see internal modernisation works delivered over a four-year period.

Esh Construction has secured a £12.6 million contract to deliver modernisation works across Gentoo’s portfolio of homes.

Work will take place over the next four years and will see homes across Sunderland benefit from kitchen and bathroom replacements, electrical rewires and energy performance upgrades.

Colin Ford, Construction Director at Esh Construction, said: “This is a notable contract award for Esh’s refurbishment division, and we’re delighted to be working in partnership with Gentoo.

“Giving back to the local community is at the core of Esh’s values and throughout the scheme we will work with Gentoo to deliver a variety of social value initiatives and benefits across the local area.”

The contract is part of a recently announced £32 million investment by Gentoo to modernise more than 5,000 properties through a four-year internal modernisation programme. Marc Edwards, Director of Asset and Sustainability at Gentoo Group, said: “We are delighted to have awarded these contracts as part of our wider investment plan. This is a very exciting investment for Gentoo and the scheme demonstrates our commitment to enhancing our existing properties.

“Tenants are at the heart of everything we do at Gentoo and engaging with them throughout this process really demonstrates this. We are looking forward to working with the contractors over the next four years to improve the homes of our tenants.”

Developed in line with resident feedback, the improvements for kitchens and bathrooms will include soft close drawers and doors, waterproof bases to sink units and upstand finishes on worktops instead of tiling.
