A huge collection of gifts has been donated to the Great North Children’s Hospital Foundation after Esh Construction and its supply chain partners raised over £1,750 for the cause.
Working in partnership with the foundation, part of Newcastle Hospitals Charity, a variety of games, Lego, fidget toys, perfume sets and art sets were donated for children aged 10 to 15 years – an age group which often gets missed out when donations are received.
In recognition of the outstanding dedication of staff, even more so throughout the pandemic, a range of bath bomb sets and chocolates have been provided for colleagues to promote relaxation and wellbeing.
The gifts have been distributed across the many wards within the Great North Children’s Hospital (GNCH).
Alan Croft, Contracts Manager at Esh Construction, said: “We’re delighted to handover the gift donation and I would like to thank Esh staff and our extremely supportive supply partners MKM Building Supplies, Premier Traffic Management Ltd, Middleton Forge Ltd, Roadsafe Traffic Management Ltd and Premier Road Markings Ltd.
“The pandemic has been a very challenging time for everyone, particularly those on the frontline within the health service and for those receiving treatment in hospital. Giving back to the local community is at the core of Esh’s values, and if these gifts manage to brighten up the day of those receiving them, we’re really proud that we have been able to make this small difference.”
GNCH is one of the four largest children’s hospitals in the UK. It has special wards, operating theatres, outpatients, day case suites and an A&E department all tailored to children, their families and carers.

Thank you to Esh Construction and their partners for working with us to look at exactly what would make the best impact for our patients and staff.”
The gifts in kind were provided as a result of the work Esh’s civil engineering division is delivering at Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) Hospital, located next to the GNCH. The team has been on site since March this year to construct a new car park exit onto Queen Victoria Road, reconfigure the traffic route around the car park to a one-way system and create new ambulance drop off bays.
