Esh Construction has supported Tees Valley Combined Authority’s (TVCA) Educate the Educators programme by facilitating training sessions on site for 13 teachers.
TVCA’s Educate the Educators programme, was launched in January 2025 backed by the Careers & Enterprise Company, with the aim of supporting teachers to apply the world of work to their curriculum. As a regional contractor with deep-rooted links across the North East, Esh was invited to deliver a tailored session showcasing the breadth of careers available in construction – from site management and civil engineering to quantity surveying and social value delivery.
The latest cohort of 13 teachers visited Esh’s Stockton Waterfront Urban Park and Grove Hill sites to gain a deeper understanding of the construction industry. The day included introductions to Esh Construction’s project overviews, its social value initiatives, and particularly its school engagement offer. Attendees met members of the site project teams, hearing about their career pathways before learning about the site specifics for Stockton’s new urban park, and Grove Hill, where Esh is delivering 296 new affordable homes on behalf of Thirteen Group.
Back in the classroom, the session highlighted how subjects like maths can be applied in construction, using Esh’s Construction in the Curriculum maths lesson as a case study.
Aley Wright, Social Value Coordinator at Esh, said: “As a regional contractor, we’re passionate about inspiring the next generation and reducing the sector’s skills gap. The TVCA programme aligns with our continued commitment to delivering meaningful social value and providing opportunities for young people across the communities in which we work.
“Working directly with educators helps us extend our reach by enabling teachers to incorporate industry relevance to their lessons which in turn means that students receive up to date information about construction careers through curriculum-led teaching.”
The teachers will now be tasked with creating lesson resources based on their experience with Esh, which will be made available to schools via TVCA’s website. Careers Coordinator at TVCA, Suzanne Strathern, said: “I would like to thank the staff at Esh for their support with the delivery of this valuable encounter. It was amazing to have an insight into the work they are completing in the local area and to hear about the various pathways & job roles within the company.
“Programmes like this are extremely important for both employers and schools/colleges to build sustainable relationships and to enable them to work together within the classroom and on site to prepare, inform and support the young people with making their future decisions.”
