Esh Construction has commenced works to deliver 36 new affordable homes at Bolehill View in Sheffield, on the site of a former community care facility.
The appointment by Sheffield City Council follows the receipt of £4.1 million of funding from Homes England via its Affordable Homes Programme and will see high-quality homes delivered in a significant new development of two apartment blocks on the site.
The £7.9 million project will deliver a mix of accessible and adaptable homes which will reflect the character of the local area, with 30 apartments in one block, and six in the other.
Simon Woodward, Operations Director at Esh Construction, said: “We are proud to continue strengthening our partnership with Sheffield City Council through the delivery of the Bolehill View affordable homes project. This scheme directly addresses the city’s housing need by providing 36 high-quality, accessible homes that are designed to reflect and enhance the local community.
“Our appointment to Bolehill View follows the progress we are making at the Newstead development, also on behalf of Sheffield City Council. It’s a testament to the trust placed in Esh Construction to deliver much-needed homes across the city.
“We are committed to creating sustainable, energy-efficient developments that leave a lasting legacy and will work with the council to ensure local people benefit from employment and skills opportunities throughout the construction phase, maximising social value for the community.”
The two apartment blocks at Bolehill View will feature multi red brickwork and benefit from steel and glass canopies at the main entrances while featuring air source heat pumps and underfloor heating. Externally, the site will include landscaping, improved car parking and electric vehicle facilities.
The Bolehill View project is helping deliver Sheffield City Council’s 10-year Housing Strategy, which aims to grow the number of affordable homes in the city.
This strategy guides the Council’s work towards ensuring everyone who lives in Sheffield has access to the type of housing they want to live in, in great neighbourhoods which are clean, green and safe places to live and visit, and to be able to afford to do so.
Cllr Douglas Johnson, Chair of the Housing Policy Committee at Sheffield City Council, said: “Sheffield City Council has ambitious plans to address housing demands across the city. New-built council homes like Bolehill View help with this and it’s very pleasing to see they will be supplied with modern heating systems, not gas.”
“It’s important for us to keep sight of the different types of housing our residents need. Part of the public consultation on our 10-year Housing Strategy introduced last year was finding out the types of properties people wanted to make their homes in.
“The fact that almost all of the new homes at this development will be specially built for those with additional needs is really important. We can’t wait to see these being built over the coming months. And we look forward to people being able to move in. Good quality homes are fundamental for enabling people to live happy, healthy lives.”
In November 2024, Esh broke ground on an £18.9 million zero-gas development at Newstead in South East Sheffield, where 77 new affordable homes are being delivered with enhanced sustainability credentials.
