Esh Construction hands over 14 new affordable homes in Wakefield

The Greenhill Mews development has been delivered in partnership with WDH.

A development of 14 new affordable homes in Wakefield has been handed over to WDH, with the first residents set to move in imminently.

Delivered by Esh Construction’s affordable housing division, the Greenhill Mews development provides seven two and three-bedroom homes for affordable rent, as well as seven properties for shared ownership, all of which have been reserved off-plan. Located on Greenhill Road, the properties have replaced a demolished independent living scheme which had been out of use since 2018.

Residents of the Greenhill Mews homes will benefit from energy efficient features, including solar photovoltaic panels and electric car charging points. All properties boast high quality, modern kitchens and integrated appliances, as well as a private, enclosed rear garden and individual parking spaces.

Ian Penn, WDH’s Service Director for Development, said: “We are delighted to have completed this development and it has been great working with Esh to successfully deliver this much needed affordable housing scheme, offering both homes for rent and shared ownership. The shared ownership homes have been particularly popular, demonstrating the strong demand for affordable home ownership, alongside building more affordable rented properties.

“Despite the challenging nature of the site, the fantastic results show what can be achieved when building new homes on brownfield land, which WDH is also doing in several other locations across the district. We are also very grateful for the surrounding resident’s patience and understanding during the build period and hope they are just as pleased as we are with the final result.”

The development is part of a wider £5.5 million regeneration programme in Wakefield, with Esh and WDH also working together on a 24-home development which is located just three miles away. Named Colin Barnaby Mews, the scheme is set to complete in May this year with all shared ownership plots now fully reserved.

Simon Woodward, Operations Director at Esh Construction, said: “Greenhill Mews is the first development of three which we are currently delivering on behalf of WDH, with Colin Barnaby Mews set to complete soon, and Pemberton Road in Castleford progressing.

“All of these schemes provide high quality affordable homes for local people, as well as offering an opportunity to get onto the housing ladder through shared ownership tenures. We are proud to handover these new homes which will make a real difference to the community for years to come.”

The development was procured via the Efficiency North framework and Esh has worked in partnership with P+HS Architects and Dudleys Consulting Engineers to deliver the scheme.
