Esh Construction apprentice wins national apprenticeship award

Assistant Site Manager Dan Vokes scooped an award at the Construction Apprenticeship Awards 2022.

An Esh Construction Assistant Site Manager has been named Level 4 Construction Apprentice of the Year at the Construction Apprenticeship Awards 2022. Dan Vokes works on Esh’s Pemberton Road development in Castleford and was commended for his achievements at the ceremony in Manchester on Friday 14th October.

Dan is a Level 4 Site Supervision apprentice and studies for his qualification at Leeds College of Building. He joined Esh last year to work on the Pemberton Road development which will deliver 82 affordable homes for WDH and Leeds Federated Housing Association.

Recruited via Efficiency North’s award-winning flexi-job apprenticeship service, EN:Able Futures, Dan was highly commended for his natural leadership abilities, championing apprenticeships as a National Apprenticeship Week ambassador, mentoring other apprentices he works alongside, and always achieving a positive impact in his role to maintain the safe and efficient management of the new build housing construction site.

He said: “Winning the award gives me a great sense of achievement, it supplements what I have accomplished so far in my career. I am really looking forward to my future in the industry. Anyone looking to seek an apprenticeship in the future should gain as much as experience they can and find what job best suits them, there is plenty of opportunities in the construction industry.”

Simon Woodward, Operations Director at Esh Construction, said: “Dan is a model example for any apprentice or anyone considering an apprenticeship route. He always strives to go the extra mile and his progress in a relatively short period in his role has been remarkable. Each day on site he drives forward safety, quality and productivity. He is a key part of our team and I’m sure a long, rewarding career lays ahead.”

Julie Deeley, Director of Operations at EN:Able Futures, said: “Everyone at EN:Able Futures is extremely proud of Dan. This national award recognition is a fantastic achievement and recognition of his talents and extra efforts in his role and to promote apprenticeships. We are proud that our Flexi-job apprenticeship services are providing the premium quality apprenticeship experiences we promise through our wraparound pastoral care and excellent working relationships with contractors like Esh Construction.”

The Pemberton Road scheme was procured via Efficiency North’s EN:Procure new building housing framework. Located in the Wakefield town of Castleford, the development will provide a mix of two, three, and four-bedroom houses as well as four bungalows.
