Deerness staff donate to support local children in need this Christmas

Deerness Fencing & Landscaping team up Walking With to provide Christmas gift donations for children from asylum seeker and refugee families.

Deerness Fencing & Landscaping has collaborated with North Tyneside charity, Walking With, to provide gift donations to children from families who are asylum seekers or refugees.

The donations have been arranged as a result of a fencing replacement scheme Deerness Fencing & Landscaping is delivering on behalf of North Tyneside Council. Through working collaboratively with the client to find a local charity we could support, we were introduced to Walking With who were seeking Christmas gift donations for the families who attend the project.

Walking With is a group of 26 volunteers based in Wallsend. The charity offers essential front-line support to asylum seekers and refugees in North Tyneside in the way of food parcels, recycled clothing, weekly communal meals, social activities and one-to-one provision. In support of the festive period, Deerness Fencing & Landscaping staff have come together to donate pre-school children’s books and selection boxes which will be wrapped up and gifted to children who attend the project.

Joan Hoult, CEO of Walking With, said: “We are in the process of preparing for the Christmas period. Most of these families will not receive any presents or have a Christmas lunch. Deerness Fencing & Landscaping will be donating a gift for the children attending our services. These children have been through so much trauma and distress in their short lives. They may not receive any gifts for Christmas or even celebrate due to circumstances. We want to put a smile on their face and hope these gifts can make it happen.”

Working closely with clients like North Tyneside Council gives us the opportunity to reach the heart of the communities where we work, I am proud that Deerness Fencing & Landscaping staff have come together to provide donations to Walking With that will be so greatly received at this time of year.”
