Cleveland College of Art and Design
JCT 2011 Standards with Contractor’s Design
The project consisted of the construction of a new three storey college teaching building providing 45,000 sq. ft new teaching accommodation in the centre of Hartlepool. The purpose-built space replaced College’s Church Square campus which was initially constructed during the 1960s.
A 4,247msq, three storey, building was constructed to house a bespoke workshop and studio facilities at the former Hartlepool Borough Council Lynn Street Depot site.
The garages, workshops and office buildings were demolished to make way for the new building. A two storey office building was retained and refurbished and a new link corridor created to the new building. In addition, a 600msq building was constructed and houses a lecture theatre, café and studio space.
The new site included a new 104 space car park, outside seating as well as an amphitheater in the middle of the development. The existing Church Square facility was retained, and the 1960s building remodeled to provide workspaces for students including individual works bays.
