We understand that safety goes beyond the day job though – which is why we provide additional support, from mental health and wellbeing initiatives to installing life-saving defibrillators.

Initiatives

Celebrating Good Practice

We’re proud to celebrate the hard work of our site teams through our bi-annual Health and Safety competition and ‘Esh Safe: Champion of Champions’ award - championing those who go above and beyond.

Mental Health First Aiders

At Esh we recognise that balancing the challenges of work and home life isn’t always easy – that’s why we have trained Mental Health First Aiders on hand to provide support to those who need it.

Defibrillators Across Our Sites

We have invested in 55 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) which are placed on our sites. All site supervisors have been trained to use the equipment in the event of an emergency.

Employee Assistance Programme

We have partnered with Health Assured to provide employees with access to a variety of services, such as counselling or advice on coping with stress, anxiety and financial difficulties.

‘Make it Visible’ Toolbox Talks

The Lighthouse Charity visits our sites to deliver toolbox talks on the importance of looking after your mental health and the crucial support services available for those who may need it now, or in the future.

Investment in New Plant & Equipment

We invest in innovative tools and PPE to enhance safety, accuracy and health across groundworks and drainage operations, such as updated CAT and Genny tools, flame retardant coveralls, gas detection monitors and bespoke pipe lifters.

Lone Worker & Fall Detection Monitors

We have introduced monitoring equipment for employees who could be working alone on a project. The monitors raise the alarm in the event of any issues, including potential falls, to ensure help is on hand quickly.

Video Induction Process

We have developed and introduced bespoke video inductions for site personnel, ensuring everyone working on an Esh site receives consistent and essential health and safety guidance.
