Work starts on £5.9m project to modernise hundreds of Thornaby homes

Esh Construction will deliver work to more than 400 homes in partnership with Thirteen Group.

Work is underway on the first phase of a £5.9 million project which will see modernisation works undertaken by Esh Construction on the Holmes V estate in Thornaby.

More than 150 Thirteen Group residents will benefit from £1.4 million of home improvements, including new kitchens, electrical rewires and boilers throughout the first phase which is due to be completed in the summer.

A second phase, worth £4.5 million, will be delivered in a further 250 homes across the surrounding estate and will continue into 2024.

Simon Scott, Construction Manager at Esh Construction, said: “We pride ourselves on maintaining successful working relationships with our clients and we are delighted to be working in partnership with Thirteen on another refurbishment scheme. While this project will deliver much-needed improvements to more than 400 homes, it will also provide another opportunity for Esh to deliver a lasting legacy within the local community through a wealth of tailored social value initiatives.”

Claire Atkinson, Partnership Project Manager at Thirteen, said: “This is an exciting project, which will modernise these homes and make a big difference to our customers living on the estate.

“We began speaking to the customers a couple of months ago, in advance of the first phase of the project starting so they could find out what to expect. We also held an event in the local community centre, inviting them to come along and talk to the team and choose their kitchen, giving them the chance to personalise their home, and really make it their own.

“These improvements are important and bring many benefits, not only to modernise the homes, but to ensure they are energy efficient.”
