Esh forges ahead with new community mental health hub in Northallerton

Named North Moor House, the new hub is due to open late May 2021.

Located on North Moor Road in the market town of Northallerton, construction work is progressing on a new community mental health hub on behalf of Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV).

Construction of North Moor House – a 2,500 square metre building over three floors – is being delivered by Esh’s commercial build division.

The hub will provide state of the art facilities for local mental health and learning disability services and will accommodate outpatient services for people of all ages across Northallerton and the local area, as well as community team offices.

Commenting on the build, Samuel Hallam, Project Manager at Esh Construction said: “The team have made excellent progress on this project to date, working in collaboration to overcome the challenges faced as a result of these unprecedented times. The latest key milestone saw the building’s topping out, as the steel framework, structural framing, and roof are now complete. The next phase will see the progression of the external envelope, specifically with the external masonry and installation of windows and doors, as construction moves towards 50% completion.”

TEWV, who provide local mental health and learning disability services, have commissioned the new hub and worked closely with service users and carers in the local area to ensure that the building meets the needs of the local population.

Martin Dale, strategic project manager for the Trust said: “For many years our services have been spread across Northallerton in a number of buildings. North Moor House is a huge step forward for mental health service provision in the area and will provide modern, welcoming facilities for our service users and carers, as well as providing increased consulting room space, which has been much needed.”

Naomi Lonergan, TEWV Director of Operations for the local area added: “The hub will bring all of our community and out-patient services together under one roof and will support effective communication as well as allowing teams to work more closely with one another. This will be hugely beneficial for staff and service users, allowing for safe and easy transfers of care, such as the transition from children’s to adults services.”

Due to open in late May 2021, the North Moor House development is a crucial next step for services and represents TEWV’s ongoing commitment to invest in the modernisation of mental health services.
