Overview
Delivering Active Travel Infrastructure in Rotherham
New active travel infrastructure was delivered on Wellgate and Broom Road in a bid to make it safer and more convenient for pedestrians and cyclists travelling into and around Rotherham town centre.
1,600 metres of dedicated cycle tracks were installed, along with signal-controlled crossings and associated junction improvements. An online roundabout on a busy commuter route was upgraded, incorporating new cycle lanes to provide a safer solution for cyclists when accessing the town centre.
The project required extensive logistical planning while working across online travel networks and commuter routes and supported the active travel targets outlined by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.
