Overview

300-Year-Old Bridge Repaired, Restored and Reopened

The Grade II-listed Stamford Bridge had suffered severe damage to its parapets after multiple traffic accidents.

Working in partnership with East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Esh Construction carried out sympathetic repairs to preserve the historic structure. The project was completed and the vital route reopened ahead of schedule.

Drawing on specialist expertise and materials, owing to the bridge’s age and listed status, the work involved rebuilding damaged parapets using large stone blocks, supported by stainless steel rods for added strength, and lime mortar was used to repoint large and deep areas of the structure. A cantilever scaffold system enabled safe handling of heavy stones.

The scheme was procured through YORhub’s YORcivil2 framework.
