Overview
Strengthening Blyth’s Offshore Energy Future
The £8.35 million transformation of the Ash Barge Dock at Northumberland Energy Park involved installing 173 tubular steel piles with a diameter of 610mm around the dock- side. The piles were driven to depths varying from 16m to 18.5m to support the main reinforced concrete relieving slab.
Over 6,000m³ of concrete was poured over 60 separate pours, and additional key upgrades included casting new mooring bollards, extensive reinforced concrete paving, and a new, modern drainage system.
Located near the Port of Blyth, the site is part of Energy Central and is a premier offshore energy base. The dock now supports a safe working load of 5,300kN, making it serviceable for the import and export of components and finished goods.
