As an Armed Forces Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold Covenant holder, Esh is proud to champion specialist support for the Armed Forces community. Among our ranks are employees with diverse military backgrounds, including those who continue to serve in the UK Reserve Forces.
One such colleague is Simon Schofield, Head of Design and Technical within Esh’s affordable housing and commercial build divisions. Simon has dedicated over 20 years to the Royal Marine Reserves alongside his civilian career.
When asked how Esh has supported his position as a reservist, this is what Simon had to say.
I’m a recruit troop training instructor within the Royal Marine Reserves. My role involves attending regular training weekends as part of the wider team, shaping the next generation of reserves who will go on to serve within 3 Commando Brigade.
I’ve been able to fulfil these responsibilities without a financial hit or loss of annual leave as Esh provides 10 days of paid additional leave each year for reservists. This is a huge support for me personally and demonstrates the company’s genuine commitment to the Armed Forces community.
Beyond that, Esh recognises the value that ex-forces and reservists bring to the business. I’ve learnt over the years that it teaches you to be unflappable in very tricky situations, which transfers to the civilian environment too – I’m always determined to see a positive end state and discipline to get the job done.
