As a Senior Quantity Surveyor at Esh Construction, Matthew Roulson is at the heart of commercial delivery for civil engineering projects across Yorkshire and the Humber.
He’s hands-on with everything from cost control and subcontractor management to making sure every scheme runs smoothly and stays on budget. Matthew’s expertise not only helps deliver top-quality infrastructure but builds strong relationships with clients and supply chain partners.
Alongside this, Matthew is passionate about helping colleagues grow and actively mentors junior team members to help set them on their own pathway to success. As Chair of the CECA Yorkshire & Humber Foundations Group, he’s making a real difference at Esh and within the wider industry.
My construction journey started with a degree in Commercial Management and Quantity Surveying at Loughborough University, followed by roles with national contractors in Birmingham and Essex. In 2020, I joined Esh Construction, excited to get back to my Yorkshire roots and work on projects that make a real difference close to home.
From the outset, Esh has encouraged me to grow – not just in my technical role, but as a mentor and advocate for early-career professionals. I’ve benefited from strong guidance and support, which inspired me to give back.
That’s why I’m proud to chair the CECA Yorkshire & Humber Foundations Group, helping to bridge the gap for those starting out in the industry. The group brings together people from commercial, operational, and business development backgrounds, offering networking, training, and volunteering opportunities.
I’m a firm believer that investing in people is how we futureproof our industry. Esh’s commitment to development and collaboration means I’m able to make a positive impact – both within the company and across the wider sector.
