As a Site Sub Agent at Esh Construction, Luke Davies leads on-site delivery for civil engineering projects, including the £2.5 million Section 278 works on the A689 near Hartlepool.
Luke is responsible for coordinating teams, ensuring Health and Safety standards, and driving project milestones. His role demands technical expertise, strong leadership, and the ability to communicate with a wide range of people on site.
Luke joined Esh in 2018 as a trainee engineer, and through dedication and continuous learning, he has progressed through four promotions to his current position. Hear more from Luke on his journey with Esh.
I never imagined I’d end up in civil engineering. After completing a Sports Science degree and working as a teacher, I realised the classroom wasn’t for me. Changing direction was tough, but with family in the industry, I knew there were opportunities in construction. I started as a trainee engineer and quickly saw many senior leaders had begun just like me – working their way up from the ground level.
I was thrown in at the deep end, but that made it exciting. Esh gave me the freedom to develop. I’ve progressed through apprentice levels with the company’s backing and recently completed my Level 6 Higher Apprenticeship in Construction Engineering at Teesside University.
The flexibility to attend university, combined with real-world site experience, has made all the difference. There’s a clear career pathway, and I take pride in supporting junior colleagues in their development. As I work towards Chartered Civil Engineer status, I can honestly say taking the leap into construction was the best decision I ever made.
