Read her story

Junior Social Value Coordinator, Lucy Youlton, is a key member of the Corporate Affairs team at Esh. Having completed an apprenticeship in Business Administration, Lucy now supports the planning and delivery of social value initiatives across the North East through our Constructing Local strategy.

Some of her main roles include coordinating and delivering employability workshops, school engagement programmes, and community volunteering, all designed to maximise positive impact for local people and businesses. As she continues to progress in the early stages of her career, Lucy’s journey so far is a great example of Esh’s commitment to nurturing talent and investing in future leaders.

Hear more from Lucy on her journey – proving that investing in apprentices and young people builds confidence as well as careers.

When I started my apprenticeship at Esh, I was self-conscious and nervous about presenting to groups, but I quickly realised that social value is all about people – helping others, building confidence, and making a difference in the community.

The support I received from the team helped me grow, and now I love delivering sessions in schools and seeing the impact our programmes have on young people. Every day is different, and I’m proud to be part of a company that puts social value at the heart of what we do.

I’m passionate about showing others that you don’t need to follow a traditional path to succeed. My apprenticeship gave me the chance to learn on the job, develop new skills, and find a career I love. Now, I want to inspire the next generation to consider roles in construction that they may never have even heard of. If I can help just one person feel more confident about their future, then I know I’m making a real difference.
