Senior Quantity Surveyor, Isabelle Hewitt, joined Esh in 2016 as an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, working within our civil engineering division on projects for Northumbrian Water Group.
Over the last decade, she has contributed to a wide range of schemes including wastewater and freshwater networks, mechanical and electrical projects, reservoirs and large-scale earthworks. Four promotions and a completed Degree Apprenticeship later, Isabelle is now a Senior Quantity Surveyor and is passionate about supporting the next generation of apprentices.
Here’s what she had to say.
I didn't plan on working in this industry when I finished my GCSEs. Following a change of plans from A-Levels to a college course, I chose construction because I enjoyed maths and engineering. I didn't want a role that was 100% office based, so quantity surveying felt like the right fit. Ten years on, I'm proud to have progressed from Apprentice Quantity Surveyor to Senior Quantity Surveyor. Along the way, I've worked on some fantastic projects, taken on new challenges and learned from great people who have supported my development. My advice to anyone starting out is simple: you don't need to have your whole career mapped out from day one. Be willing to learn, work hard and embrace every opportunity. You never know where that first step could take you.
