The redevelopment of Eston Precinct has marked a major milestone on site, with the steel frame installation now complete.
Esh Construction was appointed to deliver the project in June 2025 by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, aimed at providing 14,600 square feet of high-quality retail space, through seven new units. The transformation will not only provide retail services, but also enhance the appearance of Eston, making it a more vibrant and inviting place to shop.
Since the demolition of the existing precinct completed and the latest phase of work commenced in January, the project has progressed significantly. All foundations have now been installed, including reinforced concrete with holding down bolts. Steel frames, weighing a total of 85 tonnes, were lifted into position using a 100-tonne crane, securing them into position to form the emerging structural frame. Once in place, the steel was lined and levelled ahead of grouting, while column encasements were used to provide essential protection and stability for the completed framework.
Grant Watson, Construction Director at Esh Construction, said: “Completing the steel frame installation marks a major step forward for the redevelopment of Eston Precinct. This milestone reflects the hard work and strong partnership of everyone involved, and it’s exciting to see the structure now taking shape.
“With the frame now in place, we can confidently progress onto the next stages of construction and continue delivering a scheme that will bring lasting benefits to the local community and much needed retail space for the town.”
Elsewhere on site, progress has continued with the completion of an attenuation tank and associated drainage. In the coming weeks, passersby will begin to see roofing works commence on site – using a Bauder roofing system – alongside the installation of new foul and surface water mains drainage connections on the adjacent road. Substructure brickwork is also set to commence, paving the way for the building envelope to progress later in the spring.
