Esh Group has expanded its award-winning Construction in the Curriculum (CITC) programme with the launch of a new Geography workshop, further strengthening links between classroom learning and careers in the construction industry.
Designed to demonstrate the direct links between education and the world of work, Construction in the Curriculum sees Esh professionals deliver timetabled lessons through a construction lens, showcasing how subjects studied at school are applied across the industry.
The new Geography workshop has been introduced as part of Esh Group’s wider Constructing Local commitments, which create lasting social value in the communities where the business operates. The programme was launched with students at Darlington College, reflecting Homes by Esh’s long-standing joint venture partnership with Darlington Borough Council, which has delivered new homes and regeneration opportunities across the borough for more than seven years.
The launch saw members of Esh Group’s private housebuilding division, Homes by Esh, introduce students to the roles of technical and design professionals, exploring the factors that influence where and how new housing developments are built. Through an interactive challenge, students assessed potential development sites while considering factors such as drainage, flood risk, biodiversity net gain, landscaping and the surrounding environment.
Dale Morris, Technical Director at Homes by Esh, said: “The geography session gives students an introduction to the same principles we consider when bringing forward new housing developments. From assessing site constraints and environmental factors to determining how land can be used most effectively – it reflects many of the decisions made within my role, they are just actioned on an appropriate scale for the workshop participants to take away clear insights to our sector.”
