This is an official statement from Esh Group in response to the serious accident which occurred on site at Sniperley Park in Durham on 16 April 2026.
The accident involved Shay Bladen, a 17-year-old employee of one of our groundwork subcontractors. Tragically, despite the immediate efforts of the site team and the emergency services, Shay passed away in hospital on 17 April.
First and foremost, we extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends who remain firmly in our thoughts at this extremely sad and difficult time.
The health, safety and wellbeing of everyone who works on our sites is, and always will be, of paramount importance to us, consequently we are profoundly saddened by Shay’s passing. We have robust processes and procedures in place at all times across our entire organisation to reduce risk and promote safe working practices on our construction sites.
Since the accident occurred, we have worked alongside the Police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to assist a thorough investigation and continue to support where appropriate.
Out of respect for Shay and those closest to him, there will be a temporary pause on our media activity.
