This role is based within Esh Civils which delivers infrastructure schemes of all sizes, including major capital projects. We work in partnership with local authorities throughout the North East, Tees Valley, Yorkshire and the Humber to deliver a variety of projects, including public realm, highways, flood alleviation, active travel and bridge works.
About the role:
We are recruiting a Contract Manager to lead multiple civil engineering projects from start to finish. You'll support bids, coordinate pre-construction activities with design consultants, and work closely with delivery teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and successfully.

What we will expect from you:
Health, Safety & Environmental
- Shows a good knowledge/experience and understanding of HSE and CDM requirements
- Has a good awareness of all current legislation and regulations attaining to construction activities
- Is committed to achieving a high standard of Health and Safety across the Business and contributes to maintaining standards to ensure compliance with all appropriate legislation
- Carries out Monthly Health and Safety audits and reports
- Attends and contributes when required to Monthly HSEQ meetings and internal working groups
Technical
- Has experience in Management of Design teams and can effectively manage and monitor design delivery to programme and budget
- Is proactive in suggesting new ideas and change initiatives
- Promotes innovation and outside the box thinking with project benefits (cost/programme) individually and to team members (R&D)
Programme and Progress
- Can plan and schedule workforce requirements for internal resources and Sub contractors, ensuring adequate resources for holidays / peaks in workload
- Reviews and challenges the Project Programme and ensures site teams produce monthly updates timely and in accordance with individual Contract reporting
- Is experienced and can demonstrate a good understanding of Contract requirements (NEC Cl31,32 and Cl 60s) and actively promotes requirements to project teams
Commercial
- Has a good experience in commercial reporting requirements (CVR) and can drive teams to deliver accurate monthly commercial reporting with QS
- Has a good understanding and experience across various Contracts (NEC/JCT)
- Ensures the site teams monitor and understand Sub Contractor Orders and the responsibilities of Esh and the wider site teams
- Can present monthly reporting to Divisional Director on Project and Commercial performance
- When required can represent the company at tender interviews and contribute to supporting the tender process when required
Business Development
- Builds wide and effective networks of contacts inside and outside the organisation and has experience of working in the public arena with good customer communication skills
- Keeps up to date with competitor information and market trends
- Understands Client & Customer needs and works to exceed their expectations and so establish and maintain good long-term relationships
Quality
- Champions Sector QA and demonstrates buy in by auditing internally on projects regularly
- Can efficiently implement personal development of site staff through appraisals and supports in any identified training or development

Qualifications:
- Has experience in management of major civil projects and is competent in the management of multiple project teams
- Has experience in delivery of civil engineering scheme and budgets more than - £10million+ per annum
- Desired qualifications: Degree and /or HNC / NVQ level 5 or equivalent in Construction Management, CSCS Card, SMSTS
- Is a member of a Professional Body (ICE/CIOB)
- Has experience of leadership training as experience of leadership training (Basic)
