This role is based within Esh Civils which delivers infrastructure schemes of all sizes, including major capital projects. We work in partnership with local authorities throughout the North East, Tees Valley, Yorkshire and the Humber to deliver a variety of projects, including public realm, highways, flood alleviation, active travel and bridge works.
About the role:
An exciting opportunity to start building a rewarding career as an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor. In this role, you’ll support our wider commercial team across the Yorkshire Civil Engineering region, gaining hands‑on experience on a variety of infrastructure projects.
You’ll assist with cost management, measurement, procurement, and financial reporting while learning how commercial decisions shape successful project delivery. Working alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors, engineers, and project managers, you’ll develop the technical and professional skills needed to progress toward full qualification.
This apprenticeship is ideal for someone with strong attention to detail, a willingness to learn, and an interest in how civil engineering schemes are costed, delivered, and managed effectively. You’ll play a key part in ensuring our projects are commercially sound, compliant, and delivered efficiently.
Location:
Leeds (with travel to sites as necessary to undertake job role)
What we will expect from you:
- A genuine interest in civil engineering, construction, and the commercial side of project delivery, with a proactive attitude and willingness to learn from experienced colleagues
- Assistance with the commercial management and administration of civil engineering projects, under the direction of the wider commercial team
- Duties include but not limited to:
- Procurement and administration of subcontracts
- Change management
- Internal/external reporting
- Measurement and valuations
- Commitment to completing your apprenticeship programme and developing toward a professional qualification
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 GCSE’s grades 9 - 5 or equivalent including ICT, maths and English essential
- Level 3 qualifications such as A levels, BTEC, or an equivalent pathway that meets university entry requirements for a Quantity Surveying or Construction related degree apprenticeship
- Eligibility to enrol on a recognised Quantity Surveying Degree Apprenticeship programme

- Strong numerical skills and attention to detail when working with measurements, costs, and project data
- Good communication skills, with the confidence to engage with site teams, suppliers, and the wider commercial department
- The ability to stay organised, manage your time, and meet deadlines while supporting multiple projects
- A collaborative mindset and readiness to contribute to a positive team culture
- Basic IT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn industry‑specific software
