Robert Stephen’s locomotive ‘Rocket’ was displayed at the Discovery Museum’s Grade II listed building in Newcastle as Part of the Great Exhibition of the North. Works were required to improve the entrance and construct a new podium to display the Rocket.

The Museum was displayed Robert Stephenson’s Rocket for three months as part of the Great Exhibition of the North.

Works to the museum involved the removal of the existing entrance and replacement with 2 new 4m high curved glass doors and side screens. This increase in entrance size was to accommodate the Rocket and larger exhibits in the future.

New entrance matting was fitted, and paving works completed to the front of the building. During the works the main entrance was closed and an alternative entrance opened allowing the museum to remain operational throughout the duration of the scheme.
