University of Sunderland Grounds Maintenance

The contract at the University of Sunderland provides for a comprehensive horticultural maintenance service over a three year period from September 2014. Since 1994, Deerness Fencing & Landscaping Ltd has provided a full Grounds Maintenance Service, which includes grass cutting, litter picking, planting of flower beds, pruning and tree surgery at the various University owned sites throughout Sunderland.

A good working relationship with the University and the provision of a high quality service has been pivotal in securing the repeat business since 2001. The site has been commended in the City in Bloom Awards during our tenure as maintenance contractors.

The contract requires that labour is provided all year round to undertake the various works required during the seasons from Spring to Winter. The contract which includes both hard and soft landscaping and the maintenance of paved areas provides an excellent example of the versatility in scope of the services provided by Deerness Fencing & Landscaping Ltd.

The Grounds Maintenance works include grass cutting, herbicide application, litter picking, hand weeding, containment and hard pruning. Other works undertaken include soft and hard landscaping, maintenance of paved areas and hedge maintenance. Summer and Winter bed maintenance and shrub bed maintenance are also included as part of the performance specification.

Having worked with Deerness & formerly Sones for a number of years & have built up a good working relationship, I administer the contract on behalf of the University of Sunderland.

Works are carried out in a timely manner to our performance specification & I was satisfied that when Deerness won the contract competitively again last year that they would continue to perform well, as they had been carrying out the grounds maintenance in excess of 5 years previously.

- Darren Reeve, Maintenance Manager: University of Sunderland
