Esh Build Yorkshire are proud to announce that Scarborough Indoor Market has been shortlisted for the Constructing Excellence in Yorkshire and Humber Awards 2017.
The £2.3m scheme was completed in March 2017 to rejuvenate the market hall building and was made possible thanks to a grant from the Coastal Communities Fund, administered by the Big Lottery Fund. There was an opportunity to take the Market Hall forward as there was an increased demand especially for the food operators as their provenance is strong and largely supplied from the region.
The Market Hall provides a real alternative to supermarket shopping, promoting the principle of good food provenance for which the wider local economic benefits are well recognised. The quality and local appeal in relation to provenance is a particular benefit bearing in mind the popularity of the Yorkshire brand with visitors to the area, further strengthening the case of the market as a visitor attraction.
The indoor market has been shortlisted for both the Project of the Year (Buildings) as well as the Preservation & Rejuvenation categories for 2017.
